Botox is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment for moderate to severe frown lines. It works by blocking nerve transmission to temporarily reduce the contractions of the facial muscles that cause frown lines and has been proven to be a safe and effective treatment for wrinkles which is becoming increasingly popular.

One of our consultant plastic surgeons will decide if you would benefit from cosmetic treatment with botox and before starting treatment you must let us know if you have any disorders that affect your nerves and muscles, if you are breastfeeding, or if you are planning to become pregnant soon.

The procedure involves administering several tiny injections of botox directly into the muscles of your face. Prior to injection, the practitioner will determine where to administer the injections by examining your ability to move certain muscles in your brow area. The procedure takes approximately 10 minutes and does not require anaesthesia. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. You should notice an improvement in your frown lines within 3 to 7 days, the effects of which can last up to 4 months. However, results may vary. We will book you a review appointment 2 weeks from your treatment to assess the results and if minor adjustments are required these will be carried out at no extra charge.

After a period of time, your frown lines will begin to reappear as the effects of botox wear off and you can receive botox injections every 4 months.

With repeated treatments, thinning of the muscles occurs, which produces longer lasting results.

Thread or spider veins are fine red or purple blood vessels that lay in the surface layers of your skin. It is only when they dilate to 2 or 3 times their original size that they become visible to the eye. The cause of the dilation is not known but it is more common in women and can often become worse during pregnancy, after rapid weight gain or if you are prone to sitting or standing for long periods.

Micro Sclerotherapy has proven itself an extremely effective treatment for the reduction of thread and spider veins on legs.This treatment involves injecting a chemical into the vein through a very fine needle, which then works to remove the existing vessel. The final result after a course of treatments is thread vein free skin. Micro Sclerotherapy is a very worthwhile treatment that allows you to step out again without feeling the need to cover up.

A single Micro Sclerotherapy treatment will normally remove 60% of the injected vessels. A course of treatments is usually required i.e. between 3 - 5 at approximately 4 weekly intervals.

Following your Micro Sclerotherapy treatment you will need to wear compression stockings full time for 72 hours, then during the day for a further week. For this reason it is not advised to receive Micro Sclerotherapy treatment before a holiday or in the midst of summer. And don't be alarmed if the thread veins look worse to begin with as this is normal. The spider/thread veins will disperse over two to four weeks following treatment.

You will be advised to follow these instructions after Micro Sclerotherapy;

• Avoid strenuous activity and extreme temperatures for 14 days post treatment.

Chemical peeling uses a chemical solution in order to improve the skin's appearance. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) can be successful in the effective treatment of:

• Reduction of smooth fine surfaces wrinkles
• Reduction of superficial blemishes
• Correction of pigment problems
• Reduction of Acne/Acne Scarring

Anaesthesia is not required for this type of peel and they are performed by an experienced specialist nurse practitioner. You may find that two or more TCA peels may be required over several courses to obtain the desired improvements.
